Peter Schiff – Mitt Romney’s Sales Tax Increase

Steve Forbes joins Peter Schiff on his radio show to talk about the presidential candidates.

Steve Forbes says that Mitt Romney is showing his uncertainty when it comes to his wealth. The fact that he appears guilty about it shows that perhaps his activities weren’t completely wholesome.

One concerning thing about Mitt Romney economically is his call for huge protectionist tariffs on Chinese goods. And Tariffs are just another word for tax, so he is essentially calling for a 25% sales tax.

He describes it as a tax on China, but it is actually Americans who pay the tax. Many Americans buy Chinese products, so if he wants to help the American people, this isn’t a great idea.

There are millions and millions of unemployed Americans who could do the jobs that the Chinese are doing for us, if the government would just get out of the way. There would be all sorts of opportunities for Americans.

If we want to avoid the fate of western Europe, we need to avoid making the same mistakes as them. We were on that path in the early 80s, but we were able to turn it around and grow twice as fast as Europe.

Steve Forbes said that if he became president, one of the first things he would do is to fire Ben Bernanke and to install Ron Paul in his place.

It is important to remember that people create resources, not bureaucracies. The government sector jobs produce nothing that we want. The great thing about markets is that if you don’t produce what people want then you go out of business.
